If you've ever been on a diet you've probably experienced it - Your first weight loss plateau.

Don't panic! Instead, be expecting it! When it happens to you here are a few basic things to go over in order to make sure that you haven't forced your body into this plateau.

With most diets you lose a great deal of weight in the beginning because of the loss of water weight. As you begin to get in to the serious part of your weight loss plan (burning fat) many of you will be tempted to eat less than is necessary.

This doesn't work!

Losing more than a pound or two in a week can be unhealthy and force you to lose muscle along with fat. Because muscle increases the rate at which your body burns calories your caloric intake can go down as well, resulting in fewer and fewer calories that you can eat each day.

It can really be a cycle that never ends. Make sure that you aren't eating more than 1000/calories less than your maintain weight! Never Never do it!

If this isn't you, then just continue past your plateau. It's challenging but don't give up! You are still losing body fat, you've probably just temporarily put in some water weight.

Remember your goal should not be to lose weight, but rather to lose body fat!
